Curing agent-dependent localization of carbon black in thermoplastic vulcanizates

PP/EPDM Thermoplastic Vulcanizate (TPV) filled with carbon black (CB) has been prepared and the localization of filler in blend was observed to be dependent on crosslinking chemistry: rubber phase when EPDM crosslinked phenolic resin (resol) at interface dicumyl peroxide (DCP). It proved, based model reactions that mimicked what could happen during process high temperature, DCP led polymer chains grafting surface CB. This phenomenon additional classical PP ?-scission reactions. These involved a modification interfacial tensions within this ternary blend, explained preferentially between EPDM.
